The Cholmondeley Ladies

£600.00

A pair of hand built earthenware bottles.

Inspired by the painting of the same name which hangs in Tate Britain. The painter is unknown but it was painted in the early 1600’s and the two women in the painting are called ‘Ladies’ as opposed to twins or sisters because there was no written evidence that they were related. The story is that the two women were born on the same day, married on the same day and gave birth to their babies on the same day.

Coiled and slabbed with slip, underglazes and gold lustre.

The bottles each measure 26cms x 10cms and 25cms x 10cms
