Lucky resting tiger

£75.00

Each little tiger is made and painted by hand so no two are exactly alike, which makes them very special.

Inspired by Staffordshire figurines which were originally made in the early 1800’s. Tigers, often paired with lions or leopards, were favoured subjects because they represented an exotic, dramatic or "romantic" view of wildlife. The artisans who made them had never seen them in real life resulting in naive or stylized representations of the real thing.

The resting tiger measures roughly 7cms high by 10cms long and is made from earthenware clay. Painted using underglazes and finished in a shiny clear glossy glaze.
